Neelam is the popular term for all Blue Sapphires. Neelam is a remedial gemstone for Saturn or Shani. Among all remedial gems Neelam is considered the most powerful gemstone. A Khooni Neelam is actually either a purple sapphire or a blue sapphire which has red or pink coloured spots or streaks in it. This gives it the powers of Mars (Mangal) too along with the powers of Saturn (Shani). These two are the most malefic of all planets and are responsible for all accidents, wars and unnatural deaths. Therefore, only a person who has well placed Mars and Saturn can safely wear a Khooni Neelam.
