Some interesting transits and planetary events have happened in recent days. Yesterday, 15th June 2011, was quite remarkable as Sun entered Gemini (Mithun). A day before, on 14th June 2011, Mercury (Budh) too had entered Gemini. Sun will move to Cancer on 17th July 2011 and Mercury will move to Cancer on 29th June 2011.

15th June 2011 also saw the darkest and longest Lunar eclipse of this century. I too kept awake till late hours to see this rare phenomenon yesterday. A lunar eclipse (Chandra Grahan) occurs when Sun, Moon and Earth come in a straight line on a full moon night. The Earth's shadow hides the brilliance of the moon and the eclipse takes place.

In Jyotish, Rahu and Ketu are the points of eclipse and whenever an eclipse, Solar or Lunar, takes place these two shadowy planets come in close proximity in degrees to the Sun and the Moon. During a solar eclipse Sun, Moon and either Ketu or Rahu are in the same sign. And, during a Lunar eclipse, Sun and Moon are in opposite signs to each other while Ketu and Rahu are also in these two signs.

Yesterday's eclipse was also interesting in the way that both Sun and Moon were changing signs when this eclipse occurred. It was also a day of Surya Sankranti, the day when Sun changes its sign. The next Lunar eclipse will take place on 10th December 2011.

There is something more which was different about this Lunar eclipse. Moon was in its sign of debilitation, in Scorpio (Vrishchik) and was conjunct with Rahu. As we know that both Rahu and Ketu have very adverse effect on Moon, the planet which governs the mind and the thought processes. As Rahu will stay in Vrishchik for next one and half years, every month it will be in a yuti with Chandra which can be highly negative and harmful for many people.

This Moon-Rahu yuti in Scorpio will actually negatively affect everyone but it will be more stressful for those who were born under following ascendants and moon signs:

Aries (Mesh), Gemini (Mithun), Cancer (Karka), Scorpio (Vrishchik), Sagittarius (Dhanu) and Aquarius (Kumbh).

This Chandra-Rahu yuti in Scorpio will be formed on the following dates in next one and half years.

July 2011 -  11th, 12th and 13th July.

August 2011 - 7th, 8th and 9th August.

September 2011 - 3rd, 4th and 5th September.

October 2011 - 1st, 2nd, 28th, 29th and 30th October.

November 2011 - 24th, 25th and 26th November.

December 2011 - 22nd, 23rd and 24th December.

January 2012 - 18th, 19th and 20th January.

February 2012 - 14th, 15th and 16th February.

March 2012 - 13th and 14th March.

April 2012 - 9th, 10th and 11th April.

May 2012 - 6th, 7th and 8th May.

June 2012 - 3rd, 4th, 5th and 30th June.

July 2012 - 1st, 2nd, 28th, 29th and 30th July.

August 2012 - 24th, 25th and 26th August.

September 2012 - 20th, 21st and 22nd September.

October 2012 - 17th, 18th and 19th October.

November 2012 - 14th, 15th and 16th November.

December 2012 - 11th, 12th and 13th December.

Rahu has entered Scorpio on 6th June 2011 and will enter Libra (Tula) on 23rd December 2012. This will end the highly harmful monthly recurrence of Rahu-Moon yuti in Vrishchik, Moon's sign of debilitation. Its next transit in Scorpio (Vrishchik) will be after a period of 17 years, from 11th January 2030 to 31st July 2031.
